Chad has used photography and videography as his vehicles to express the way that he had always seen the game but that hadn’t been seen before.
In his sports photography, for Chad it isn’t just about capturing the goal scorer, it’s about the moments in between; the moments you don’t see. Like the reaction of the player who misses their chance, as play goes on they are still consumed by the miss.
Chad lends his unique insights as an athlete to his professional creative work, anticipating moments, plays before the action and the emotion arrive.
Recognising an absence of authentic voices in sport culture that bridged the divide between sports knowledge and genuine connection to contemporary creative culture, Chad founded Not Our Field, a sports story-telling studio led by creative couple and partnership, Chad and Cecilia Humphrey. This same distinctive combination of sports experience and creative skill is the foundation of their diverse portfolio of international creative sports projects and narrative-driven sports media.
“I found that my camera allowed me to have people in football understand me and my perspective for the first time. It allowed me to communicate the way I had always seen the game in my mind but had never seen it portrayed.”
